March is almost here and it won’t be long before tax day. NAZ Today reporter Cristiana Ramos caught up with IRS Special Agent Brian Watson to talk about new tax information to make sure the community is prepared.

For anyone with a side gig like Uber or Lyft there is now a way to report your tax information. The website is called “The Gig Economy Tax Center” which provides information for people with untraditional jobs on how to report taxes.

“When you earn income through one of these side gigs it is taxable and it’s important that you report that information,” Watson said.

Watson also wants the community to be aware of phishing scams like phone calls and emails of people trying to pretend they are the IRS. If you get one of these calls, hang up immediately.

“If the IRS needs to get ahold of you... you’ll get a letter,” Watson said.

Another safe way to file taxes is through the IRS website. It’s free, safe and you will get your refund quicker through direct deposit.
