Earth Day is this Thursday, but organizations around Flagstaff work year-round to protect the environment. The NAU Green Jacks hosted a week-long celebration called “Earth Jam” to spread awareness about sustainability on campus. Members Caroline Reed and Emily Hackett say that the Earth should always be celebrated, not just on April 22nd.

For the community outside NAU, the City of Flagstaff Sustainability Commission approves eco-friendly projects from around the community and educates residents about conservation. Sustainability Commission Chair David McCain says they also work with the city to develop plans like the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and the Flagstaff Carbon Neutrality Plan. McCain says sustainability efforts both locally and nationally will help people realize just how valuable the earth is.
