Flagstaff’s mayor Paul Deasy has been in office for almost three months, and is already facing criticism. Council member Adam Shimoni highlighted Deasy’s inexperience in public office, saying how he’s already seen some concerning behaviors from the new mayor.
An example of this is when Deasy accused Flagstaff Shelter Services of inciting violence against him. Deasy reported a death threat sent to his chief of staff, as well as a brick allegedly thrown at Deasy's home. Deasy has since apologized for these accusations and hopes to move on. Council member Jim McCarthy says he hopes Deasy has learned from these mistakes. If not, McCarthy says, it will be a “rough” two year term for Mayor Deasy.
