The state legislature is reviewing House Bill 2770, which allows businesses around the state to ignore mask mandates. The Flagstaff City Council voiced opposition to the bill in a letter to the state senate, saying that not enough Arizonans are vaccinated to justify the relaxing of regulations.
Councilmember Adam Shimoni says the bill is a common example of the state overreaching into local politics. Shimoni believes local government has a better sense of the needs of specific communities. So, he says, the state should not pass the bill, and should allow local governments to do their jobs.
The letter of opposition passed the Flagstaff City Council unanimously, and is being sent to the state senate. HB 2770 is set to be reviewed by the state senate on Monday, March 2
