Flagstaff (NAZ Today)-  At approximately 11:00 a.m. this morning the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) closed Interstate 40 due to strong winds and blowing dust.  The freeway is closed east of Flagstaff between Two Guns and Winslow (Mileposts 230-232).  In some areas along this stretch of I-40 large clouds of dust have created limited, or zero visibility conditions.

Most of Northern Arizona is under a wind advisory or red flag conditions until 9:00 p.m. this evening.  The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has observed sustained 30 to 40 mph winds in the Two Guns area with wind gusts reaching as high 55 mph.

Officials urge caution while traveling in Northern Arizona, especially for those in high profile vehicles.

Tomorrow, similar conditions are being anticipated as a cold front sweeps through Northern Arizona bringing a second wind advisory.  Sunday’s wind advisory will be in effect from between 7:00am and 7:00pm.
