FLAGSTAFF (NAZ Today)
A series of weather systems are forecasted to move through Northern Arizona starting Monday night. Based on the latest forecast models, heavy snow is expected Monday through Friday with totals between 2-4 feet by the end of next week.
Storm #1: The first storm is expected to move into Northern Arizona Monday night. Snow levels will begin at 7,500 feet, but will lower to 5,500 feet by Tuesday morning along the Mogollon Rim from Flagstaff to Forest Lakes. Throughout the day Tuesday snow will be heavy at times with totals from 4”-10” in Flagstaff.
Storm #2: The second storm will slide in right behind the first one on Tuesday night bringing even higher amounts of snowfall. Snow levels will continue to be around 5,500 feet with heavy snow fall above 7,000 feet. Snow totals will range between 10”-16”.
Storm #3: Models are not in agreement, but one is trending colder with more moisture as well as a slowdown in progression. If all of those things hold true, the third storm, predicted to move through on Thursda, may be the strongest with 12”-18” of snowfall.
Driving conditions across the northland will deteriorate quickly overnight Monday and be treacherous throughout the week. Visitors planning to travel across Northern Arizona should start making alternative travel plans.
Residents of the high country need to be preparing for this storm and have supplies on hand.
