Arizona Abortion Law Challenged

PHOENIX (AP) — A newly enacted Arizona law that imposes restrictions on abortions is being challenged in court.

The law mandates a mandatory 24-hour waiting period before getting an abortion and requires that doctors give certain disclosures about risks and alternatives.

Planned Parenthood of Arizona announced Monday that it is suing to challenge the constitutionality of several provisions in the law set to take effect Sept. 30.

According to Planned Parenthood, the lawsuit asks that the challenged provisions not be allowed to take effect until the court rules on their legality.

Parenthood Parenthood’s announcement of its lawsuit did not specify the provisions that the group contends “threatens women’s access to health care.”
