DOUGLAS, Ariz. (AP) — Gun and ammunition sales are up at a Douglas store following the murder two weeks ago of a southern Arizona cattle rancher.

Authorities believe an illegal immigrant — most likely someone working for a smuggling cartel — shot the 58-year-old Rob Krentz on March 27 on his ranch near Douglas.

Krentz managed to drive away in his all-terrain vehicle before dying from his wounds. Nothing had been stolen from him, his gun was still in its holster and his dog was killed, too.

The general manager of Allsafe Security, Lynn Kartchner, says he’s selling 20 guns a week and most of them are handguns.

Kartchner says he’s unhappy that the rise in sales stems from a death in the community. He says he was friends with Krentz and misses him.
