Flagstaff, AZ (AP)- The Coconino County Health Department says seven children mistakenly received an adult dose of swine flu vaccine at a Flagstaff clinic last weekend.

The Health Department says the children were between the ages 6 months to 9 years old and received double the amount of vaccine than they should have through a pre-filled injection at a flu clinic. Over 700 people were vaccinated at Saturdays clinic.

All families were contacted when the clinic learned of the issue and were asked if the children had any adverse side effects. The families did not report any side effects to the vaccine. The children will still need a second round of the flu vaccine to have immunity to the virus.

County Health Director Barbara Worgess says it’s possible that similar packaging between the vaccines for adults and those for children could have led to confusion. She says more training is being conducted to avoid future mistakes.
