Tonight’s edition of The OT discusses high school basketball as well as NAU basketball and volleyball.

Coconino Boys Basketball kicked off their season with a game against Page, falling to the Sand Devils 42-41. The Panthers bounced back from the loss with a win over Bradshaw Mountain. The team has a young roster this year and they will be looking to Vincent Figueroa and James Hampshire lead them through the season.

Flagstaff Boys Basketball began their season with a 59-37 win against Mingus High. The Eagles went undefeated in sectional play last year and had an overall record of 23-5. The team has many returning players including their starting five. They will look to dominate this season with their strong defense and offense pairing of Kaleb Sandoval and Brandon Tiffany.

The NAU Men’s Basketball team had a tough start to their season with a record of 2-4. The Jacks will be looking to string wins together as the season progresses. A key player for the NAU team is Junior Kris Yanku. He ranked first in free-throws made last year and is a major player in the Jacks’ offense. The team has also felt the effects of injury this season with Senior Jordyn Martin out for the rest of the season with a broken foot. Martin was named Big Sky defensive player of the year last year and was a big piece to the team’s defense.

The NAU Women’s Volleyball team won the Big Sky Conference Championship, shutting out all three opponents they faced in the  conference tournament. The Lady Jacks will advance to the NCAA tournament where they will first face the University of San Diego, who went 21-9 in the regular season. Key players for NAU going into the tournament are Janae Vander Ploeg, Payton Bock, Addy Lofstedt, Stacia Williams and Jensen Barton.

With the Fall sports wrapping up Cody Cameron takes a look back at the top four moments of the Fall season. Number four is NAU Women’s Soccer’s overtime with against Weber St. In the Lady Jacks’ last home game of the season Emily Wadell tied the game in the final seconds of regulation time sending the game into overtime. They clinched the win with a goal by Torey Braly assisted by Nicole Sherwin. Number three is the high school rivalry game between Flagstaff and Coconino. The Coconino Panthers struck first with a beautiful pass from Cristo Tabares to Arthur Chee, however Flagstaff came back with 33 unanswered points. Number two goes to the Flagstaff high school Girl’s Volleyball team for their incredible season with a record of 32-14. Lead by captain Courtney Leffel the Lady Eagles dominated in the state playoffs. Number one goes to the NAU Women’s Volleyball team for dominating their season and clinching the Big Sky title.
