Coconino and Flagstaff High School cheerleaders -- including some special olympics athletes -- competed at Sinagua Middle School Tuesday.

The athletes competed on unified teams including some players with special needs and others without. Special Olympics Mountain Area Director Rubett Garcia says this competition emphasizes sportsmanship and friendship, which is the function of the unified team. She says there are no distinctions made between the players --each person is a valuable member of a team.

After an energetic competition, the Flagstaff High School emerged as the winner.
