With the MLB season right around the corner, NAZ today takes a look at high school baseball player Jake Plecas as this week's athlete of the week.

The Coconino Center Fielder/ Pitcher started playing ball with his brother from a young age about 11 years ago. When he got to high school he knew baseball was something he wanted to do while he was there. While Jake's family is his biggest support system, his brother serves as a inspiration for him. CHS head coach Daniel Vander Valk says that Jake's brother was always there to help him with their positive relationship, and get some extra batting practice in.

This year after being on varsity for four years now, Jake is asked to serve as a mentor for the younger players on the team. With his success at the high school level, Jake is committed to play baseball at the college level with accepting to play at Utah Valley University.

Even with a bright future ahead of him, he wants to focus on going on a win streak and to make it to the state playoffs for the Coconino Panthers.
