CAMP VERDE (NAZ Today)– Human remains found in a wash near the Beaver Creek Camp Ground “are believed to be the remains of Sylar Newton,” according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators are waiting for final identification on the remains, which were found about two miles from where the 2-year-old Newton disappeared, according to YCSO spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn. He says that the Sheriff’s Office received a call confirming a discovery shortly before 1 pm this afternoon.
Newton was last seen while his family was camping in the Beaver Creek Camp Ground on July 24th. D’Evelyn says the remains were found on the bottom of a wash, and it is likely they ended up there due to recent flash flooding.
Yavapai County deputies along with FBI agents and a forensic anthropologist are investigating the scene.
