FLAGSTAFF (NAZ Today) – The Coconino National Forest has released new numbers on the Schultz Fire, listing it at 10,000 acres as of 4:30 PM.

Fire crews worked through the night to construct preventative fire lines designed to corral the fire.  However, the latest reports from the Forest Service indicate that the fire is still 0% contained.

Additional evacuations are in place as the fire moves eastward, including Timberline south of Campbell to Government Tank Road.  Pre-evacuation orders have been issued to residents from Forest Road 556 south to Silver Saddle.

This afternoon, the Mount Elden lookout reported wind gusts of over 50 m.p.h.  As of 1:30 p.m., air tankers have been grounded due to the high winds.

Coconino National Forest is holding a public meeting tonight at Coconino High School at 7 p.m in the school’s main auditorium to address the public’s concerns.

Firefighters who responded to the fire have been staying in Cromer Elementary School.   A briefing was held this morning as the Type 1 management team took over operations of the fire.

There are now over 50 people managing 400 firefighters.

As of Monday mid-day, no structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported.

The fire began around 11:00 am Sunday morning in the Schultz Pass area north of Flagstaff.

Stay with NAZ Today as we continue to track the fires around Flagstaff and Northern Arizona.

  1. I would just like to say thank you for the wonderful job covering the fires. My daughter is still at NAU so it is nice being able to check on the fire conditions. We are used to fires here in Southern California but I have to say how nice it is to hear compliments to the firefighters instead of blame and complaints from the citizens. Keep up the great work!

  2. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. A great big thank you to everyone battling the fires. We are a great community and appreciate each and everyone of you! Keep on fighting!!!!
