Students in Coconino got the opportunity to speak with an astronaut in space. The Students of the Flagstaff Unified School District were able to prepare questions to ask during the call from the International Space Station. During the 20 minutes that the International Space Station passed over Flagstaff, kids asked their questions as it flew by.
In order for this to be possible, it took a year of planning beforehand. People had to first figure out how to connect with Skype and the other technology needed to make this work. Houston became the bridge of communication between the International Space Center and Flagstaff. Teacher at Coconino High School says that the most important message that kids got today is “to shoot for the stars."
