Refugees are using art to tell their stories as part of a unique project at NAU. NAU Masters student Kiril Kirkov, a migrant from Bulgaria, says he created the new roots project to allow other migrants to share their story.
Kirkov says the project is about giving validity to the way refugees and migrants comprehend, understand and creative return to the world around them.
Late last year, Kirkov taught eight refugee students from Vienna basic photography and storytelling skills. At the end of the class, an exhibition was held to show off the students original work. Kirkov is raising money to keep the program running. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for cameras and to provide support for the project.
