Coconino Humane society has been the sole contractor for animal control in the county, until today. Second Chance shelter, located in Doney Park will be re-opening under a new contract and a new name. Paw placement of Northern Arizona signed 5-year deal today, which includes an agreement to handle animal control for the and county. The shelter, which was renamed High Country Humane, is practically brand new and will provide an updated, fresh start for incoming strays. Liz Bohlke, Board of Directors for Paw Placement, says “It’s going to be a better place for the animals to be.” Starting January 2nd, 2019, High Country Humane will begin accepting animals into the shelter.
