KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) — The City of Kingman is rolling toward the establishment of train quiet zones in the downtown area.
Council members this week voted unanimously to direct city staff to proceed with the initial design study for a downtown quiet zone.
The study includes conducting an onsite inventory of existing improvements at each of Kingman’s three at downtown railroad crossings.
Staffers also would assess the various quiet zone options and consult with the Federal Railroad Administration and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad.
A quiet zone is a stretch of railroad corridor where train crews don’t have to sound the horn at railroad crossings.
Towns and cities can qualify for quiet zones if the crossing meets minimum safety requirements.
