FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Coconino National Forest officials are soliciting public comment on 10 potential wilderness areas.
Public meetings will be held July 26 in Flagstaff and July 27 in Sedona. The meetings are being held as part of a revision process of the forest plan.
The U.S. Forest Service evaluates lands that have wilderness characteristics before making recommendations to Congress for official designation.
A draft report outlines the capability, availability and need of the 10 potential wilderness areas. They range in size from 1,280 acres to more than 26,000 acres.
Forest officials are encouraging the public to submit comments by Aug. 2.
