Garbage, Medical Waste Pose Problems for Recyclers
NAZ Today’s Charlie Hicks and photographer George Heckard had a chance to visit Flagstaff’s material recovery facility, or MRF, today.
It’s where material from Flagstaff and all over the region goes to be sorted, and eventually, recycled.
But recently there’s been a trend of more non-recyclable material ending up at the MRF, and that’s causing some costly and even dangerous problems:
People are putting more and more non-recyclable material in with the recyclables causing all kinds of problems for the processing plant, especially with needles and medical waste posing a danger to sorters.
