PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) — A Yavapai County judge has agreed with a candidate who claims his name should have been listed on the ballot for Prescott’s city council election.
Superior Court Judge Michael Bluff issued an order late Thursday that halts Prescott’s city election, which had been scheduled for Nov. 3. Bluff also directed the city clerk to place candidate Paul Katan’s name on the ballot.
Katan’s attorney, Gil Shaw, says the community is “in uncharted waters.” But he says the judge’s ruling helps preserve the “integrity of the voting process.”
Katan calls the ruling a win for Prescott voters.
City Attorney Gary Kidd says he was surprised by the ruling but his department will review the matter before deciding how to proceed.
No alternate date has been scheduled.
