MAYER, Ariz. (AP) — High winds Tuesday pushed a destructive wildfire toward a grade school in the Yavapai County community of Mayer.
The school was briefly evacuated, however flames never reached the school grounds.
Mayer Fire Chief Glenn Brown said the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office evacuated nearly 20 people from a dozen homes. Two homes were burned along with five outbuildings and a travel trailer. No injuries were reported.
The fire may have ignited from a remodeling project at a Mayer residence. That home was severely damaged by flames.
