WILLIAMS, Ariz. (AP) — Kaibab National Forest officials are planning several prescribed burns during the next few weeks on the Williams Ranger District.
Depending on Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval and weather conditions, forest personnel on Thursday will ignite 100 acres of slash piles near Spring Valley, eight miles north of Parks.
Another 100 acres of piles are planned for a controlled burn south of Interstate 40 and east of Sherwood Forest Estates.
Forest personnel also are preparing several other burns near Bill Williams Mountain. That would include Twin Aerial (941 acres), South Hat (307 acres) and Hat (about 739 acres).
Officials say those burns also depend on DEQ approval and weather conditions that minimize smoke impacts.
