FLAGSTAFF (NAZT) – Rows upon rows of American flags line the amphitheater adjacent to the Union expansion on NAU’s campus today, all in memorial of the 2,977 citizens who died from the infamous terrorist attacks eight years ago today.
The non-partisan student group, NAU Conservatives, organized the display.
“There are about 3,000 flags because there might have been more [deaths],” said club president Stephanee Hazlett.
Names of all confirmed dead will be read over a PA system this afternoon, followed by brief speeches by Hugh Kealer, 2010 gubernatorial hopeful, and Bradley Beauchamp, candidate for congress.
Also at the Student Union is a 6pm showing of History Channel’s, “102 Minutes that Changed America,” a documentary about the World Trade Center attacks.
The flags will be removed by sunset.
