GRAND CANYON (NAZ Today)– Grand Canyon National Park rangers found the body of a missing hiker this morning near Toroweap Valley, under the North Rim. The hiker set out on a day hike Monday morning on the Lava Falls Route heading for the Colorado River. When he did not return by Monday evening, his wife drove from Toroweap Valley to Fredonia, about three hours away, to report him missing.
Rangers began the search late Monday night, and searched the area by air this morning. Rangers located the body at around 9:20 am. Searchers hiked in to help recover the body in the steep, remote terrain.
The man’s body was flown out and transported to Kingman where the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy. The name of the victim is being withheld until family members are notified.
