Cinder Hills Fire Burns Actively in OHV Area North of Flagstaff

Flagstaff, AZ – The Cinder Hills Fire, is approximately 80 acres, burning in the ponderosa pines south of Forest Road 777 and Little Cinder Basin. The fire is in close proximity to where the Whiplash Race will be conducted Saturday.  Depending on fire activity, there could be modifications to the race route for public and firefighter safety. With high winds and low humidity in today’s forecast, firefighters are expecting increased fire behavior throughout the day.  They’ll be focusing on creating containment lines to the north and east of the fire.

Smoke is noticeable from Flagstaff, and will likely settle in the immediate area overnight. There are currently no closures in place, however, visitors to the Cinder Hills OHVare asked to use caution and yield to fire traffic.
