Forest Service Expects Early Arrivals at Campsites

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — The Forest Service expects camping areas in northern Arizona to fill up rapidly as the July Fourth weekend approaches.

Most campsites in the Kaibab and Coconino National Forest are on a first-come, first-served basis.

As always, the Forest Service asks campers to leave the campsite the way you found it. Pack up all trash and make sure fires in designated areas are extinguished.

Campfires, charcoal grills, and stove fires are prohibited on National Forest lands below the Mogollon Rim except within developed recreation sites where grills and campfire rings are provided.

Campfires are allowed on the rest of the Coconino National Forest “above the rim,” and on all of the Kaibab National Forest areas.

Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building in forest areas.
