Body of Fall Victim Recovered Near Grasshopper Point

Flagstaff, AZ – The body of an approximately 38 year-old male who fell to his death in the area of Grasshopper Point at Oak Creek Canyon was recovered this afternoon.  On Friday, June 19, 2009 at about 11:10 a.m. Emergency Communications Specialists of the Northern Arizona Regional 911 Reception Center received a report of a deceased fall victim from the Sedona Alarm Center.  An individual who was hiking a trail at Grasshopper Point that parallels Oak Creek discovered the body of a deceased male.  Sedona Fire Rescue personnel responded and confirmed that the victim was deceased.  Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies, Detectives and members of the Coconino County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit deployed to the area.

Due to the rugged terrain responders were required to perform a technical rescue in order to recover the body that was subsequently transported to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.  The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.  Coconino County Sheriff’s Detectives continue this investigation in an attempt to determine the circumstances that resulted in the victim’s death.
