Flagstaff, AZ – Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies have identified the adult male who made contact with a ten-year old boy and an eleven-year old girl on Monday, May 18, 2009 at about 8:15 a.m. as they waited at a bus stop on Pioneer Valley Road in Pioneer Valley, which is a subdivision of Doney Park located East of Flagstaff.
The adult male caller read about the incident in the Arizona Daily Sun Newspaper and believed he was the person who the children described. According to the caller he mistakenly believed the child he offered a ride to was the son of an individual he was doing plumbing work for. Information provided by the caller has been confirmed by investigators and deputies.
Deputies believe this incident was not attempted child abduction as it appeared to be during the time of the original report. However due to the fact that the children who were approached did not know the individual who was offering them a ride, they reacted exactly as they should have given the circumstances. The children refused to enter the stranger’s vehicle as they have been instructed to by their parents and immediately reported the incident to a trusted adult.
Even though it is believed that this incident was not an attempted child abduction it is imperative for parents to speak to their children about “Stranger Danger” and to report any incident that they believed places them in danger or causes them to feel uncomfortable.
