It has been nearly a decade since the last census was taken in Flagstaff. The census allows the government to get an accurate count of the population in every part of the country. Flagstaff Comprehensive Planning Manager, Sara Dechter, says the census count is important in many ways. By measuring Arizona's growth, for example, the state could gain another U.S. House seat.

April 1, 2020 is census day. Letters will be sent to every residence urging citizens to fill out the form online. If that doesn't work, a census-taker will eventually come knocking.

Students who live on campus will be counted by census takers at their dorms and residence halls, not at their parents' homes.
