An Arizona court of appeals ruled that the state is not legally responsible for protecting citizens' property in the event of a natural wildfire. This decision was reached after a pair of lawsuits were filed against the state by victims of the Yarnell Hill Fire. Some residents of Yarnell say that firefighters were negligent in protecting their homes. Despite this ruling, the victims' attorney plans on filing another appeal.
