With summer approaching, a higher number of kittens are being born due to the warmer weather. NAZ's Rayna Steffen visted a local shelter that takes a different approach to caring for cats.

The Ark Cat Sanctuary in Parks is an outdoor cat refuge. Owner Susan Marue says the shelter takes the overflow when Flagstaff shelters have too many cats, as well as animals that need behavioral work, nursing moms, kittens, and other high-risk felines. She says the outdoor shelter is healthier because it discourages the spread of disease and it gives cats the freedom to roam around.
