PHOENIX (AP) — A little Payson boy who spent a summer night lost in the woods is telling his story.
Four-year-old Travis Mitchell was missing for 18 hours from Sunday into Monday.
Searchers on horseback found the boy Monday and carried him to an awaiting helicopter where he was flown to a Payson hospital and later taken to Phoenix.
Doctors checked Travis out at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He did get some cactus needles in his leg, but is said to be OK.
Ginger Mitchell said her son told her he did not sleep overnight Monday and just kept walking in the wilderness.
Travis said he was worried his older brother was also lost.
Holding her son tight Tuesday morning at the hospital, Ginger Mitchell called the time her son was missing the scariest moment of her life.
