PHOENIX (AP) – Gov. Jan Brewer has submitted a court-ordered plan to improve services for the seriously mentally ill in the Phoenix area, proposing structural changes that would require legislative approval.
The filing proposes shifting some behavioral health services from the Department of Health Services to the Arizona Health Cost Care Containment System – the state’s Medicaid program.
According to the filing by Brewer’s lawyers, that would better align physical and mental health care services and remove barriers between them.
It also says Brewer envisions a pilot program to integrate services for people in the Phoenix area on a voluntary basis.
The filing says the changes should both improve services and evaluations of the improvements.
