MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Mesa police have arrested a teenager in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Mesa high school student.
Mesa police detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested 17-year-old Robert John Valenzuela Friday evening in west Phoenix.
Detective Mike Melendez says he has no further information and would answer questions Monday.
On Thursday, police responded to the Pinnacle Charter High School after 15-year-old student Eric Hill was stabbed repeatedly. He died soon after at a local hospital.
Witnesses told Mesa police an argument turned physical before Valenzuela stabbed Hill near a parking garage in an outdoor corridor of the high school.
Police said it appears the incident was gang-related.
