SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) — Ultralight aircraft continue to be a preferred way for some drug smugglers to bring their goods into the U.S.
The Border Patrol says two more attempts were made over the weekend to fly pot over the border near Nogales.
Agents responded and discovered bundles of marijuana totaling nearly 500 pounds. The marijuana has an estimated street value of nearly $400,000. The illegal drug was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Last week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a McNeal resident and seized more than 1,100 pounds of pot near Douglas after an ultralight air smuggling inquiry.

How shocking that ultralights are used to smuggle drugs, yet at the same time not so surprising. They are not so expensive as other aircraft, fly very high, and don’t require much fuel.
