Brewer Tells Safety Agencies to Maintain Services

PHOENIX (AP) — Amid continued uncertainty about the state’s budget, Gov. Jan Brewer’s office says she has directed the state’s public safety agencies to maintain normal operations Wednesday.

Brewer spokesman Paul Senseman says that direction has gone out to the Departments of Corrections, Juvenile Corrections and Public Safety.

Legislative action on budget bills was continuing late Tuesday night and Senseman would not say what Brewer would do if she gets bill that would amend a legislative budget approved June 4 but not sent to the governor.

But he says Brewer still wants lawmakers to approving putting a sales-tax increase on a special election ballot. The House didn’t consider that measure when it acted on other budget measures.
