YUMA, Ariz. (AP) — A Yuma high school student who never missed a day of class this year won a car in a contest rewarding students for perfect attendance.
Rahel Alenayehu is a junior at Cibola High School. She won a new Chevrolet Aveo in the contest in which dozens of high school students were eligible.
Yuma Mayor Larry Nelson picked Alenayehu’s name at random in a raffle.
Alenayehu says sometimes she didn’t want to go to school, but made herself go as she thought of possibly winning a car.
Alenayehu doesn’t have her driver’s license yet, so she will have to wait to drive it. She’ll get her license June 24.
Joe Fisher of the Fisher Chevrolet dealership has organized the contest for the past five years, saying students who participate are getting a better education.
