Governor Doug Ducey has signed a bill banning texting and requiring the use of hands-free cellphone devices when driviing.

Sergeant Charles Hernandez, with Flagstaff Police, says officers will educate the public on this new law by first issuing written warnings to violators using a phone while driving. The law calls for a warning period until 2021. Traffic Citations won't be issued until 2021.Texting and driving is already banned within the Flagstaff city limits.

We spoke with local citizens about the new law, and most agreed it is a good idea. Jaicomo Mazza, Amelia Noel, and Jesse Carstens say they support the new law.
