Forty-seven-year-old pilot Frank Protiva and 58-year-old Thomas Moody, both of Flagstaff, died in the crash.

A police officer who witnessed the crash heard the plane’s engine sputter and saw the aircraft hit a tree.  The plane was found about 90 minutes after the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.

  1. The man that died in this plane crash was my best friends brother. She goes to my church. The father passed away, but it is my understanding that his son survived this crash. You may want to update this story.

This article is from an earlier plane crash that occurred back in January, also south of Flagstaff. I believe you are referring to the plane crash that occurred on August 4th. Here is a link to that story: http://www.naztoday.com/news/top-stories/2009/08/breaking-news-plane-crash-near-stoneman-lake/
