FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a Flagstaff man reported missing in July has been found near Fredonia.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says the body of 30-year-old Richard Clay Branham in a parked car about 14 miles south of Fredonia.

Arizona Game and Fish Law Enforcement officers discovered the body while conducting an unrelated enforcement detail Saturday.

The body has been sent to the Coconino County Medical Examiner for further investigation, but authorities don’t believe foul play was a factor in Branham’s death.

The Arizona Republic believe Branham may have been staying in either a Fredonia motel or his car between July 14 and 18 due to his credit card activity at local stores for food purchases.

Flagstaff (NAZ Today)- While students at NAU were taking part in the winter graduation ceremony at the Northern Arizona University (NAU) police officers were busy searching the northern and central areas around the campus for a bank robbery suspect. The Chase Bank branch located just west of the NAU campus along South Milton Rd. was robbed at approximately 10:53 a.m.

Witnesses to the robbery told officers that a male subject had entered the bank and began demanding money. The subject reportedly displayed or mentioned that he had some sort of a device. After collecting an undetermined amount of money from the tellers the suspect then fled from the scene in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The bank was closed for several hours after the robbery as police conducted an investigation. Bomb technicians from the Flagstaff Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety were also called to the bank. Bomb robots were sent into the bank to check a bag that was left in the bank during the robbery. Police officials did not specify what was in the bag.

The Flagstaff Department is still looking for a male subject who was last seen wearing brown or tan boots, dark pants and a dark jacket and carrying a purple backpack or duffle bag. This subject is to be considered armed and dangerous.

There was a collaborate effort between Flagstaff Police Department, Northern Arizona University Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety and Coconino County Sheriffs Office during the investigation of this bank robbery.

Flagstaff (NAZ Today)- A small fire, and heavy smoke caused the evacuation of the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Union on Friday evening. A two person rescue crew from the Flagstaff Fire Department was the first to arrive at the scene as smoke alarms were sounding and the building was being evacuated. An employee at the union reported that there was a lot of smoke and believed he saw a fire on the second floor.

Using a “can man”, which is a 5 gallon water can fire extinguisher the two person rescue crew was able to extinguish the fire as other units were arriving on scene. The quick response from the Fire Department helped to limit the fire damage to one office and some equipment. The damage estimate for this fire is approximately $5,000.

The University Union remained closed for the remainder of the evening while the Flagstaff Fire Department and NAU maintenance crews worked together to ventilate the smoke out of the building.

Prescott Valley (NAZ Today)-A Prescott Valley man that pointed a shotgun at a Yavapai County Sheriff’s (YCSO) deputy is in serious condition at a Phoenix hospital after being shot by the deputy.

On Saturday evening, YCSO deputies responded to the 2700 block of North Kings Highway West in Prescott Valley for reports of shots fired in the area. The first deputy to arrive on scene spotted 31 year old Michael Poyner standing in front of the residence armed with a shotgun.

When the deputy ordered Poyner to drop the shotgun he refused and then raised the shotgun barrel towards the deputy. The deputy immediately fired his service handgun and struck Poyner in the upper body. Poyner fell and was taken into custody.

Assisting deputies and officers from the Prescott Valley Police Department arrived and contained the scene. Poyner’s residence was checked for any injured persons, none were found. Poyner’s mother who had been in the house had fled without injury.

Poyner now remains in custody and under guard at John C. Lincoln North hospital in Phoenix. He faces numerous assault and weapons related charges.

The Department of Public Safety, Officer Involved Shooting Team, arrived and initiated a review of the incident. The deputy will be placed on administrative leave per YCSO policy.

The deputy was not injured during the shooting.

FLAGSTAFF (NAZ Today)- An accident involving four cars at the corner of Smoke Rise and N. Highway 89 sent three people to the hospital in the early afternoon on Sunday. Rescue crews from the Flagstaff Fire Department and Guardian Medical Transport had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate two victims from their vehicle. The vehicle, a Subaru passenger car had been T-boned by an oncoming Bronco SUV. The incident commander at the scene said this extrication was one of the worst they had seen, due to the severity of the impact. Both victims were transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment and evaluation.

One woman involved in the crash was wearing her seat belt and was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center in stable condition. One of the other vehicles involved in the accident had an airbag deploy, which fire crews believe helped prevent more severe injuries.

The Flagstaff Fire Department reminds motorists to always remember to buckle your seat belt.
