NAU Art Museum throws a ceramic exhibition

The NAU Art Museum is throwing a “Biennial Juried Ceramic Exhibition,” open Friday, Aug. 21 through Saturday, Sept. 19. A reception will be held Aug. 21, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Museum.

The exhibition was juried by internationally renowned ceramist, Kurt Weiser, who since 1988 has headed the ceramics department in the Herberger College School of Art at Arizona State University. The exhibition features ceramic art from artists across the nation.

“The Biennial Juried Ceramic Exhibition, inaugurated by the NAU Art Museum in 2009, is a tribute to the international standing of the university’s ceramics program and our Tozan Kilns, as well as an opportunity for the Northern Arizona community to experience groundbreaking work by ceramicists across the United States,” said Dr. George Speer, director of the NAU Art Museum. “The exhibition features works by seventy artists creating ceramic pieces in abstract, figurative, and narrative modes.”

NAU Ceramic majors that were accepted into the juried show include Eugene Brosseau, Tristyn Bustamante and James Coquia.  NAU Ceramic alumni Dennise Gackstetter, Brian Harper

Heidi Kreitchet, Larry Meagher and Leslie Dawson Briers are also in the exhibition.

The NAU Art Museum is open Tues. – Sat., 12 – 5 p.m. and closed all university holidays.  This event is free and open to the public with a suggested $2 per person donation. For more information, visit nau.edu/artmuseum or call 928/523-3471. The museum is located on the corner of Knoles and McMullen Circle in the historic Old Main building.
